So you are moving across the country or the world, and want to bring your cat.
With domestic travel, it is important to check with the airline you will be using. There is the choice of in cabin or cargo. For in cabin, your cat will need to go through security with you. Your cat will need to be taken out of the carrier and go through the metal detector. This happens if you have TSA pre-check also. A private screening can be requested. Be sure to allot plenty of time.
Cargo is another option. Your cat will need to be at the cargo section of the airport 2 hours prior to departure. You will need to have water and food available in the the carrier. Weather can impact travel if it is too hot or too cold.

What if you are going to travel internationally? This includes Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
First call or go to the web site of the country you are traveling. If you country has special requirements, they will be there. Most countries with special requirements will require that your cat have a microchip. Be sure that this microchip can be read internationally. Yes, there are different kinds of microchips. If you arrive to your new country without a readable microchip, your cat will not be allowed entry. Microchips are a good idea for cats that will not be leaving the United States.
