My cat is coming in for a dental cleaning and possible extractions. Will he be in pain when he comes

That is an excellent question for anyone to ask their veterinarian when their cat is coming in for a procedure that will be causing discomfort. Here at NoVa Cat Clinic we do make sure your cat is going to be very comfortable after a procedure. We have a variety of medications that are either dispensed at the time of the procedure or after.

If your cat has extractions, just like a human dentist, we will do local blocks on the areas of the teeth needing extractions. This ensures your cats will be pain free post extraction. Along with local blocks, your cat does receive a synthetic opiate that will last 3 days. One other way we treat for pain is using our Multiwave Laser. We use this post operatively for faster recovery for extractions, severe periodontal disease and painful stomatitis in cats. The laser stimulates the tissue for rapid repair and cellular growth.

Hold on, a laser?

You bet! And we love it! Our laser is a Class IV FDA approved cold laser. It is human medical grade and it emits no heat when used.

The Multiwave Locked System Laser Therapy

This is the latest treatment we have incorporated into NoVa Cat Clinic and we love the results we are seeing!

What is does:

  1. Anti-inflammatory

  2. Analgesic (helps reduce pain)

  3. Accelerated tissue repair and cellular growth

  4. Improved blood flow to areas that need healing

  5. Increases Metabolic Activity (increases cellular energy output)

  6. Trigger points and Acupuncture Points (yes! It enhances your Acupuncture visits!)

  7. Reduction in scar tissue

  8. Improved nerve function

  9. Immunoregulation of cells

  10. Faster wound healing

The laser has been a wonderful additional tool for treating our patients. So far we have used it on our post operative patients, post dental extractions, chronic arthritis, wound healing, cystitis pain, and much more! We can even brag a bit by saying we have been able to unblock male cats using the laser vs. using a urinary catheter!

If you are interested in MLS treatment for your cat, do not hesitate to contact the clinic to discuss possible treatments for your cat.
